Mexico | Excursions

Hello! Today I thought I'd write my second post about Mexico and tell you what I did whilst I was there ect.. I love reading these types of posts while I'm planning a holiday, we're currently planning to go to Florida next year (if all goes to plan) and I cannot get enough of reading these posts and watching videos of Disney and Florida!

Before going we researched all the excursions that were on offer and we planned to go on quite a few, but actually only went on a couple in end. The hotel we stayed in was amazing and there was always something to do anyway, so we didn't feel we needed to go on lots of excursions like we have on other holidays!

Xcaret is something I had been looking forward to for months and months. It's an Eco Park and a Zoo combined and there is so much to do there including the chance to swim with dolphins and stingrays! This was the first excursion we went on and we opted for the Xcaret Plus package and paid £80 each this included transport, admission and use of everything in the park apart from the things on the 'optional activities' list and you also got a free meal at one of the restaurants in the park!

I think if you're only going to Xcaret for the one day like we did, it will be pretty impossible to do everything. We only managed to visit the aquarium, see all the animals, do the caves/river swim, eat and it was time to be picked up! You can stay later for the show which is supposed to be amazing, but it was such a long day anyway we decided to skip it!

Tips
Try and buy biodegradable sunblock before travelling, as it's SO expensive out there!
Go on a cooler day, the day we went it was SOO hot and I got the worst heat rash and my legs went purple, so pretty ;)

We saw these boats outside our hotel every night and it looked so much fun, so we decided to go and paid £75 each. The night before I decided to have a quick look on Trip Advisor at some reviews and SO many were really bad, so I was kind of apprehensive!

We were picked up at around 6pm and taken to the boats. You are either on a Captain Hook boat, or a boat with Captain Jack Sparrow as we're both fans of Pirates of the Caribbean we were hoping to be on the one with Jack and luckily we were! There isn't too much to say about this to be honest, it's basically a few hours of entertainment and then it's time for dinner, which is either Lobster, Steak or both! ;) After dinner the entertainment continues, the Captain Hook boat shows up and Jack and Hook have a sword fight, which I think my boyfriend enjoyed so much more than I did haha! It then turns into a party boat and you sail home!

Tips
If you don't really like a party atmosphere, this one isn't for you!

As we had to give a couple of our excursions a miss (Chichen Itza and Isla Contoy) sitting by the beach everyday did start to get a little boring so a few days we went and got the bus to the local shopping plaza 'La Isla' This had amazing shops such as Victoria's Secret, MAC, Zara ect

Tips
Get a bus instead of a taxi! Taxis can be really expensive as they don't have a meters, they can charge what they like and buses are only 80p for a return!

The Interactive Aquarium is located at the La Isla shopping Plaza. When buying tickets there are a few different packages, we just went with the basic one which only cost around £7 each and included admission and the dolphin show at 7pm. You can also pay extra to swim with Dolphins, Sea lions or a Shark Encounter. The aquarium is really small, but still a lovely experience! The staff are really friendly and you can stroke the stingrays which was pretty cool!

Tips
If you're wanting to see the dolphin show, make sure you're aware of the viewing times. We didn't and had to miss it because we didn't want to be waiting around for hours!

We were also hoping to get a boat over to Isla Mujeres on our last day to swim with dolphins, but the weather was really bad so it was cancelled! We're hoping to do it in Florida instead, but I've realised it's SO much more expensive which is annoying!

Hope you've enjoyed these posts about Mexico! Are you going anywhere nice this summer?

Duty Free/Mexico Haul

Hello! Since arriving home from Mexico life has become pretty hectic. As you know my Grandad has been in the hospital for 13 weeks now and he hasn't been doing too good recently, so I try to see him as much as I can! As promised I thought I'd show you the things I picked up whilst I was on holiday. Usually, in my hauls, I haven't used any of the products and the packaging is all in perfect condition, but this time the packaging is definitely not perfect because of the travelling and I have already used some of the products! I hope you don't mind.

Starting off with the things I picked up from Duty-Free!

Visiting Duty-Free was something I was really excited for and had a little wishlist of things I wanted to pick up! Firstly I went to MAC and if you've read my blog before, you'll know that I'm obsessed with MAC, but obviously, they're pretty expensive so It's amazing to be able to get a little bit of a discount! I ended up picking up four lipsticks - Lovelorn which is a blue toned pink, Saigon Summer a super bright orange, Angel a frosty soft pink and Chatterbox a red toned pink, which is actually a repurchase because I literally wore this lipstick SO much last summer and I couldn't be without it when I do run out! I feel like I really need to stop buying MAC lipsticks now because I have a fair few and I'll definitely have to do a MAC lipstick collection soon!

I then thought I'd head over and have a look at the eyeshadows! In January I received a MAC palette for my birthday and I know so many people buy their palette and fill it right away, but I really just could not justify the price all at once! I still have 8 slots to fill so I thought I'd pick up a few more shades and I ended up going with Satin Taupe, Antiqued and Sable.

Duty Free Haul MAC 2014

Whenever I go to a MAC counter I always seem to forget to have a look at their brushes, this time I remembered but they were all shoved in a pot and it was pretty hard to even look at them, so I just went with one I knew I really wanted which is the 217 and I do already have this in my collection, but I use it SO much I needed a spare!

Duty Free Haul MAC 2014

The packaging got super ruined on the way home, but these two are just repurchases! I needed to buy a slightly darker foundation as mine are all really pale, so I went with the shade NW20 which some of you may think is still really pale, but I don't actually tan my face because of my sun damage!

Duty Free Haul YSL 2014
Duty Free Haul YSL 2014Duty Free Haul YSL 2014

YSL are a brand I've wanted to try for the longest time, but the prices can be slightly off putting. I knew that I probably wouldn't spent much money whilst I was in Mexico, so I bit the bullet and finally purchased my first two products from YSL! First, I picked up the Shocking Mascara I have been eyeing this up since 2012 when Louise from Sprinkle of Glitter said how much she loves it! I'm usually really fussy when it comes to mascaras, but this is truly amazing! Another product I always hear about are the Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks so I had to get one! I'd never been to a YSL counter before and I found the lady a little bit overwhelming and she was pretty adamant I get the shade 8 Pink in Confidence and I just gave in, but I'm slightly annoyed at myself for it now!

A trip to Duty-Free would not be complete without looking at all the perfumes they have on offer! Most bloggers all seem to have a vast collection, but I just don't and I've been lusting over a Marc Jacobs perfume for the longest time and I've been avidly been saving my Boots points so I can get one from there, but I caved and bought Dot and I also picked up Princess by Vera Wang, it's one I have wanted for a loong time and it had 40% off so I couldn't say no!

and that's it for Duty-Free items! Once in Mexico I didn't buy too much, they do have a lovely shopping plaza in Cancun that sells MAC, Chanel, YSL etc but I thought I'd be good! Although I was really excited when I noticed they had a Victoria's Secret, even though there are a couple in England now I've never been and have always wanted to! The store, however, was pretty small and didn't sell any swimwear or underwear, but they did sell the beauty products which are what I wanted to purchase anyway!

I hadn't heard from any bloggers which scents are the best to go for, so I just went with the ones I liked the smell of in the shop and picked up Love Spell, Mango Temptation, Coconut Passion, Sheer Love and I also picked up Mango Temptation and Coconut Passion in body lotion form as well!

Sorry, it took me ages to put this haul up, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway! What have you been buying recently?

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] | £15.50 40ml

I first heard about the brand La Roche-Posay when everyone went crazy over the original Effaclar Duo, I added it to my wishlist right away, but for some reason, I never got round to actually purchasing it.

The last few months my skin has been pretty bad, which I think is probably just down to hormones, so I tried all my usual tricks, but to no avail so I thought I needed to add a new product to the mix. I remembered how much everyone always raved about the Effaclar Duo and thought it was time to finally purchase. I bought mine from Boots and noticed that they now have improved the formula and it's now called 'Effaclar Duo[+]' As I didn't get to try the original I don't know how it compares, but I think now it also helps heal redness and pigmentation after a breakout.

The way everyone spoke about this was like it was an amazing miracle cream and I was really expecting it to change my life, at first I applied it to the whole of my face as instructed, but I didn't really see much of a difference. I find this works a lot better when I've applied it directly to my problem areas. I've probably been using this for a few months now and I'm still really 50/50 about it, sometimes it's amazing and heals blemishes overnight, but other times it doesn't help them at all!

Overall, I do like this and I would recommend it, but I'm not sure if it's worth the hype!

Have you tried this, what are your thoughts?

Hello, you lovely lot! Most of you are probably really bored of me talking about my holiday, but for those of you who are interested, I thought I'd write up a couple of posts on what I did and a general review! I did originally plan on doing a travel diary, but as It was such a relaxing holiday, I thought it would be pretty boring to read!

Before booking, I spent most of my time reading SO MANY REVIEWS for various different hotels and last July we finally booked a 'Sea View Junior Suite' via Thomson at the Riu Palace Peninsula which is 45 minutes away from Cancun Airport. It was an All Inclusive package, which included all meals, snacks, drinks, entertainment, water sports etc.

We flew out from London Gatwick on 21st April on a Thomson Dreamliner and we had already pre-selected our seats which cost around £30 each which I really recommend doing as I would have hated to be sat alone for all those hours! Originally the flight was expected to take around 11 hours, but luckily only took around 9 hours in the end! When we arrived in Cancun, we then had around another two-hour wait to actually get past immigration which wasn't the nicest after the long flight! We then finally got our taxi transfer to our hotel which usually takes around 45 minutes.

Once we finally arrived at the hotel and were checking in, we were bought over a welcome drink which was really lovely and we were then shown to our room which had a dining/living area, king sized bed, shower, whirlpool bath, double sinks, flat screen TV, mini bar and coffee making facilities etc! We were in room 1129 and I think we were both really amazed at how lovely the room was and the view was just beautiful! We also got free wi-fi which worked perfectly and was great for watching Netflix if we didn't feel like going out in the evenings! Location wise I didn't feel like the hotel was the best as we did have to get a bus anytime we wanted to go to the shops, which did feel slightly annoying, but the buses are so regular, they run 24 hours a day and it's only 80p for a return!

The only negative points of the holiday were my horrible sunburn/heat rash which really hurt when being in the heat, so we didn't do as many excursions as we were hoping to do, I'll probably do a separate post on the things we did because this post is already really long! and whenever we did have a problem the staff at reception never seemed too bothered, we did have £40 stolen from our room which isn't too much of a loss, but again the staff never actually did anything about it, but luckily our Thomson Rep was really lovely and always tried his best!

I was going to end this post with a little tips section, but I don't think there are too many to be honest apart from the fact I really recommend you taking Mexican Pesos instead of USD. Dollars are fine when tipping etc, but when using them in shops they will always give you change in Pesos and the exchange rate is really rubbish and make sure you're aware you have to pay a departure tax which is around £40 each, I saw a few shocked people at the airport!

Overall, we both really enjoyed this holiday and we're now really sad to be home and back to reality. I would go here again and would recommend the hotel if you're looking to stay in the quieter area of Cancun :)

Be sure to keep an eye out for other posts about my time away and a haul! If you have any questions feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email!
